Accessibility Statement

ChessSolve takes the following measures:

• Accessibility is considered when new pages and features are built, not audited afterwards.
• Every interactive element is reachable and operable by keyboard, with a visible focus indicator.
• Pages use semantic headings and landmark regions so they can be navigated by structure.
• Accessibility problems reported by users are treated as bugs, not feature requests.

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.

ChessSolve is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard. The specific parts are listed under Known limitations below.

It helps if you tell us the page, what you were trying to do, and which browser or assistive technology you were using.

We aim to respond within 5 working days. If your report is not resolved to your satisfaction, reply to our response asking for it to be escalated and it will be reviewed again by the site owner.

ChessSolve is designed to be compatible with:

• Recent versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on desktop and mobile.
• Screen readers and other assistive technology built into or commonly used with those browsers.
• Keyboard-only operation, and browser zoom or text enlargement up to 200%.

ChessSolve may not work well with browsers more than three major versions old, or with assistive technology that does not support WAI-ARIA.

Accessibility of ChessSolve relies on the following technologies: HTML, WAI-ARIA, CSS, JavaScript and SVG. These technologies are relied upon for conformance with the accessibility standard used.

Despite our efforts, there are limitations. Below is a description of each, and what to do instead. Please contact us if you find a problem not listed here.

1. Chess boards are graphics. Board positions, best-move arrows and the evaluation bar are drawn, and cannot currently be read out by a screen reader.
   Alternative: the move list on the analysis board is real text and can be read and navigated. Contact us and we will supply a position or analysis in text form.
2. Move quality is signalled by colour. Arrow colours indicate how good a move is. Text labels accompany them in most places, but colour is carrying more meaning than it should.
   Alternative: move classifications are also written out as text in the analysis panel.
3. Third-party pages. Payment is handled by Stripe, and the extension draws on top of Chess.com and Lichess. We do not control the accessibility of those pages.
   Alternative: contact us and we can arrange a subscription without using the checkout page yourself.

ChessSolve assessed the accessibility of this site by self-evaluation. No independent external audit has been carried out, so there will be problems we have not found. This is the main reason the conformance status above is “partially conformant” rather than a stronger claim.
